Dahmane El Harrachi, born in 1925 in El Biar (Algeria), was the pupil of El Haj Menouar, the great master of Chaabi. He moved to France in 1949, where he became known as the "bluesman" of Algerian Chaabi. Dahmane El Harrachi composed numerous songs with his banjo, including the track "Ya Rayah", which became a big international success. He returned to Algeria for several concerts through the country. He died in a car crash in 1980.
