The music presented here testifies to the rebirth of the Karitiana traditions. The music of Cizino Karitiana, the last shaman (pajé in Portuguese) of the community, allows him to be the intermediary between the community and the spirits of the dead which are the source of all the diseases (to be sick, is to be " a little dead"). But the pieces played clarinet are merrier: they belong to the " festivals of chicha", a ritual devoted to fermented drinks made of corn or of manioc.
